Doolly Noted

  • Prince was a master in acts of dominance. When he changed his name to the symbol, it forced his label into the ridiculous task of mailing floppy disks with a custom font to publications.
  • Prince’s dad, John Nelson, led the “Prince Rogers” jazz trio, which eventually became John’s nickname, and then Prince’s official name.
  • Prince said he used to get physically ill from depression during the “Dirty Mind” era.
  • While renting an NBA star’s (Carlos Boozer) house, Prince dyed the fountain purple and converted the gate into his symbol, among making other renovations. The star was about to beat him up, but then Prince just gave him a check for roughly a million dollars.
  • After Dave Chappelle parodied him, Prince put the comedian’s likeness on his single art without asking permission.
  • When Prince’s alias was the unpronounceable symbol, some staffers at Paisley Park just referred to him as “the dude.”
